Privacy Policy
Overview
This policy explains what information the mobile game Duskward handles on iOS and Android, why, and the choices you have. Duskward is developed and published by Jake Haas. If you have any question, write to jake@jakehaas.com.
There is no account or sign-in. We do not run servers that receive your game data. Ads are served by Google AdMob, which collects some device data to show and measure ads. Where the law requires it we ask for your consent first, and on iPhone and iPad we ask for permission before any tracking. Purchases are handled by Apple or Google; we never see your payment details.
Information stored on your device
The game saves your progress on your device: currencies, unlocked heroes and stages, upgrades, achievements, statistics, settings, and a record of the items you bought so they stay unlocked. It is stored in the app's private storage and is not sent to us.
On iOS, when you are signed in to iCloud, the game also keeps a copy of this save in your own iCloud account so your progress follows you to your other devices and survives reinstalling. On Android, Android's Auto Backup includes the save file in your Google account's device backup. These copies live in your Apple or Google account under your account settings; we never receive or have access to them.
Your device's own backup may also include this data, including iCloud or computer backups on iOS and device backup on Android. Uninstalling the game deletes the copy on the device. Settings → Reset progress resets it, including the cloud copy on your other devices.
Advertising (Google AdMob)
The game shows optional rewarded ads, for example to revive or double your gold, and occasional ads between runs. They are provided by Google AdMob through the Google Mobile Ads SDK.
When the game requests an ad, Google may collect device identifiers, including the advertising identifier (on iOS the IDFA, only if you allow tracking; on Android the Advertising ID and App Set ID) and other identifiers limited to this app or developer. Google may also collect your IP address, which may be used to estimate your general location, such as country or city, never your precise location.
Other information Google may collect includes advertising data, such as the ads you have seen and tapped; product interaction, such as app launches, taps and video views; diagnostics and performance data, such as crash logs, app launch time, hang rate and energy use; and device and app information, such as device model, operating system version, language and app version.
Google uses this information to deliver, measure and limit the frequency of ads, to prevent fraud and abuse, for analytics, and, only where you have allowed it, to personalise ads. Ad content in the game is restricted to Google's PG (parental guidance) content rating or lower. Google's use of this information is governed by its privacy policy at https://policies.google.com/privacy; see also https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
If you buy Remove Ads, subsequent launches do not initialize the Google Mobile Ads SDK or request ads. Every ad reward is granted without an ad.
Consent and privacy options
On first launch, where the law requires it, including the EEA, United Kingdom and Switzerland, the game shows Google's consent message so you can choose whether Google and its advertising partners may store and access information on your device and use your data for personalised ads. Your choice is saved on your device and shared with Google and those partners. If you do not consent, you may still see non-personalised ads, which use limited data, for example to count ad views and prevent fraud.
You can change or withdraw your consent at any time in Settings → Privacy options, shown whenever it applies to you.
App Tracking Transparency (iPhone and iPad)
On iOS the game asks for permission to track through Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt. If you choose Ask App Not to Track, the advertising identifier is not available to the game or to Google, and ads are not personalised using data from other companies' apps and websites. You can change this at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking. Your choice never affects gameplay or rewards.
Android advertising controls
On Android you can reset or delete your Advertising ID, or opt out of ads personalisation, in your device settings: Settings → Privacy → Ads or Settings → Google → Ads, depending on the device.
In-app purchases
Purchases, including Remove Ads, the Starter Pack and gem packs, are processed by the Apple App Store or Google Play. We never receive your name, email address or payment details. The store sends the game a transaction record containing the product, a transaction identifier and its status so the game can deliver the item and restore it later; this record stays on your device. Apple's and Google's privacy policies apply to the payment itself.
When you contact us
If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you choose to write. We use it only to answer you and delete it when it is no longer needed.
What we do not collect
The game does not ask for or access your contacts, photos, camera, microphone, precise location or health data. It has no sign-in, no chat, no social features, and no analytics or crash-reporting service of our own.
Sharing and selling
We share information only as described above: with Google, to provide ads, and with Apple or Google, to process purchases. We do not sell personal information for money. Under some US state laws, letting an ad network use advertising identifiers for personalised ads can count as selling or sharing personal information; you can opt out through Privacy options, the iOS tracking setting, or your Android ads settings.
Children's privacy
Duskward is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the game, contact us and we will help remove it.
Retention and deletion
We keep no copy of your game data. Data on your device is kept until you reset your progress or uninstall the game. Information collected by Google is kept according to Google's policies; you can manage it with the controls above and in your Google account.
Security
Your saved progress is protected by your device's operating system. Google encrypts the data its SDK sends in transit using TLS.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, for example under the GDPR, UK GDPR or US state privacy laws, you may have rights to access, correct, delete or port your personal information, to object to or restrict its use, and to withdraw consent. Because we hold no personal information about you on our systems, most requests concern data held by Google; write to us and we will help you exercise your rights. You may also complain to your local data protection authority.
For personalised advertising, the legal basis is your consent; for non-personalised ads, ad measurement and fraud prevention, it is our legitimate interest in funding a free game.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we will publish the new version at the same address and update the effective date above. Significant changes will also be noted in the game's release notes.
