Wake-on-LAN didn't wake my computer.

A magic packet is fire-and-forget, so a send always looks successful and almost every failure is on the target. The big one: Apple Silicon Macs don't wake from magic packets over Wi-Fi — they need a Bonjour sleep proxy on the network (an Apple TV, HomePod, or AirPort), and over Ethernet it just works. Also make sure you used the MAC address the network actually sees (not a private Wi-Fi address), that Wake for network access is on, and that a laptop is plugged in.

Why can't it show Wi-Fi networks or other devices' details?

iOS blocks Wi-Fi scanning for every third-party app and hides other devices' MAC addresses, which rules out the MAC-to-vendor lookup desktop scanners use. LAN Discovery names devices from what they broadcast over Bonjour instead, so it identifies plenty of them — just not by hardware address.

Why does it ask for Local Network permission?

Ping to a local address, Port Scanner, LAN Discovery, and Wake-on-LAN all reach devices on the network you're on, and iOS requires your permission for that. Everything stays on your device; nothing about your network is collected.
